Sushi vs. Sashimi
Visiting a restaurant that serves sushi will almost always guarantee you'll find sashimi on the menu.
While both dishes originate from Japan, sashimi is not a type of sushi. It is a separate dish served without rice. Sushi, by definition, must include vinegar-soaked rice, while sashimi is simply thinly sliced raw seafood like tuna or salmon. Nigiri, on the other hand, falls between the two, featuring raw seafood placed over a ball of vinegared rice.
